I was told this was a metal chain mail pot scrubber that was used to clean cast iron pots in the 1920's. Personally, I can think of another use for this that does not involve cleaning per se, but you will certainly feel refreshed afterwards. This implement does have a nice weight to it and it quite a special piece.
